A night of short plays putting the brightest and best Deaf, disabled and neurodivergent writers centre stage. Join us for a great night out and expect the unexpected!

Once a year, Graeae partners with a UK venue to host a showcase of short plays by Deaf, disabled and neurodivergent writers written in response to a predetermined theme.

The next Crips with Chips will take place at Liverpool Everyman on Saturday, 24 February 2024.

If you identify as Deaf, disabled or neurodiverse, Graeae and Liverpool Everyman invite you to submit a 10-20 minute play responding to the prompt ‘a fork in the road.’ We encourage you to be as inventive in your response as you like.

Requirements:

  • Writers must identify as Deaf, disabled or neurodivergent
  • Writers must be based in the UK or Ireland — no other location-based restrictions apply
  • Plays must be no more than 20 minutes in length — 15 pages is a good but inexact guide for this
  • Plays must require no more than three actors
  • Plays must not have been performed elsewhere

Selected writers will receive £500. In addition, we will cover the selected writers’ travel, accommodation, and access costs. We will request writers’ access requirements once the scripts are selected.

Expectations:

  • Writers will be expected to redraft their play in response to feedback from Graeae and Liverpool Everyman
  • Writers must attend a full day workshop of their play at Liverpool Everyman during w/c 19 February (exact date TBC)
  • Writers must attend the tech and dress rehearsal and performance at Liverpool Everyman on Saturday, 24 February

If a writer’s access needs prohibit them from attending in person, we will arrange for them to attend remotely.

Deadline: Midnight on Thursday, 30 November 2023Â
